Dear Friends and Supporters,
We are just days away from October and the start of Breast Cancer Awareness month, and we are excited to use this time to focus on cause and prevention. Since the first National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in 1985, progress has been made in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer, but sadly, the number of breast cancer deaths has not changed substantially. Until we find the cause and how to prevent it, those dreaded words, “you have breast cancer,” will continue to disrupt lives.
I hope you like the new look of Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation, which we have been quietly rolling out over the past few weeks. We think it reflects our renewed focus on research. We believe that the more resources that are directed towards finding the cause of breast cancer, the sooner we will begin to make the kind of progress that will put us on a fast-track towards eradicating the disease completely.
You might have also noticed that we’ve changed the URL for our website to: DrSusanLoveResearch.org and our twitter handle to @DrLoveResearch. In case you are wondering, Act with Love – which was never the name of our Foundation – is still our call to action, and we hope you’ll continue to act with us in our pursuit of a future without breast cancer. In the coming months, we will be undertaking a complete redesign of our website to update content and functionality, adding more opportunity for our supporters to connect online. Act with Love will have a special home on the new website where you can find opportunities to engage with the Foundation and with each other. This is a big project; it’s going to take us some time to get it all pulled together and launched, but you’ll be the first to know.
But most importantly, we are pushing forward with our research agenda, leading the charge to perform, inspire, and facilitate innovative research into the cause of breast cancer by looking at novel approaches that no one else is exploring. Next February, we will hold our 8th International Symposium on the Breast. This unique program draws together an iconoclastic group of researchers, clinicians, technologists, and advocates to apply next generation science and technology to understanding how breast cancer develops.
Please keep an eye on our Research Worth Watching section of the newsletter and on our social media channels, as these are the places where you’ll hear from Dr. Love on breaking news, promising new directions, and trending issues.
